I Giganti (the Giants)

The Giants of Mont'e Prama are ancient stone sculptures probably created by the Nuragic civilization of Sardinia. Fragmented into numerous pieces, they were found by accident in March 1974, in farmland near Mont'e Prama, in the area of Cabras and their discovery is considered one of the most important in XX century. The statues are carved in local sandstone and their height varies between 2 and 2.5 meters.

Depending on the different hypotheses, the dating of the Kolossoi – the name that archaeologist Giovanni Lilliu gave to the statues – varies between the 11th and the 8th century BC.

The size and strange faces of the sculptures, make somebody think that they show visitors from another planet.

You can see the statues in Cabras Archeological Museum, that you can reach in less than two hours by car. After the visit at the museum we suggest to go visiting the ruins of the old Phoenician city of Tharros, at about 20 minutes drive, and the nearby beach of Is Arutas.
